Re: Boycottaru?

Didn't Ancient Greece have something to do with the Olympics? About people competing against each other to see who was the best and then perceived as God-like? Hence "Olympics" and the relation to Mount Olympus...? Or did they compete against other nations as well? But then again, I think the Ancient Greeks were still pretty heavily into their 'military warfare'; they loved the combat, as far as I know. Oh I don't know anything about the history of the games - Wikipedia, here I come!

No i think it was a greek only thing- but every state was its own country (Athens, Corinth, Sparta, etc) and they fought constantly...

I think you mean "every state was its own state." Being at war with another part of your country doesn't make you a separate country; it just means it's a civil war.

To Glen: Wait - oh..? I'm gunna ignore your immediately previous post, because I'm not sure what it's about, but I'll re-address your other post that I commented on: I see what you mean, wikipedia has cleared it up, you were talking about the "Revival" of the Olympic games, not technically the "creation" of.

All I meant was that it was curious how you didn't actually seem to (at least in my view) address my address to your post. I'll try to reconstruct it.

Glen: The Olympics were created so countries could compete against each other and not war.

Me: I thought the Ancient Greeks created the Olympics.

Glen: No, Greece had constant civil wars.

That's where I go "Keh?" You just picked some little side issue of my post -one which I don't think I was even strongly proposing, if at all -, argued against it, then seemed to pretend that that was what the whole argument was all about.

But then afterwards I did find some info about the games being an alternative to war, but it was about the "revival" of the ancient games, not the creation of it. And so the post came about.

Oh, no worries- i thought the Ancient Greeks created it as an alternative to war, and then proceeded to war it up every time there wasn't an Olympics handy to create a truce...

Then again, i think i did agree that the Ancient Greeks created the olympics- but i have a feeling i was answering You and Marc in the same post/sentence...

Something i just read (from the Olympic committee website) says the torch part of the ceremony is from Greek times... Wikipedia says it had no torch in the original- who's word can we trust?

Really? Is there an article about that?

This isn't really exactly what I was talking about, but it's kinda related.

China censors internet access (or something)

I didn't read the whole article so I'm not really sure on the details. But someone else may find it interesting.

I just heard the same thing on the Radio- Chinese public internet cannot access human rights websites...

Good government there!
