It looked alright.

Anyone know the plot? I've killed this Diablo guy twice already....

Plus I'm gonna come out here and say it.

I looking forward to Diablo 3 MUCH more than I am Starcraft 2. I predict there will be epic lannage.

Mmmm, I feel that they have less chance of screwing up D3 than SC2, mainly because of the hyper-hype over SC2, and also the fact that I don't think there's as much scrutiny over an RPG like this since there's little need of balancing because you mainly womp on the computer players - except for the balancing between characters I guess, which mainly amounts to providing them all equal killing power, which I'm not actually sure how well they did with that in D2...

Plus, if there's gunna be epic LANage in anything, it's gunna be SC2.

That'll do.

To me (and many others) RPGs require some form of character development not just stat development. I don't count WoW either.

I don't know.... third person weapon thingie game

Ah, k.

Does that mean there's practically no RPGs on the PC and only limited to those physical dice-rolling games?

Kinda.

There is no reason why they can't have character development, especially in something like WoW. Even little things like a background story for your character that has some kind of influence in the game world might help me to call them RPGs. Or some freedom with the quests. Not "go do this, this way"

Diablo is a different story though. People don't play that expecting or wanting a RPG. It's more of an action game.

RPG has become an accepted term for those kinds of computer games though. I think enough people understand the difference between computer RPGs and dice-rolling games. I don't think you need to protect the "RPG" term.

Do you consider Neverwinter Nights to be an RPG?

Ish.
I think my idea on what constitutes a RPG is antiquated (sp??????) though.
By definition you are 'playing a role' in all those games. I think I'm just angry that they don't give me what I want in a RPG.

Neverwinter Nights would be borderline by Trev's description. Neverwinter Nights 2 would definitely be an RPG. Although I tend to find the latter rather tedious...

But yeah, whatever your definition of an RPG is, it's been accepted to a certain genre of games. Marc is right, it doesn't need to be protected. As far as I'm concerned you just have different kinds of RPG's. Some provide a character backstory, some don't.

Oblivion or Morrowind? your back story (at least in morrowind) affected how your character developed... but the fighting really did suck in Morrowind- i guess it's hard to balance everything Trev wants into one neat little pack-e-age!

sorry if it sounded sarcastic...

in any case, i don't really have a net connection at the moment- are we in favour of this new Diablo or agin it?
