The ancient roman's invented concrete and also constructed the largest un-supported dome in the world (still). They are also the only people in history with the skill to carve red marble... this could be because they are also the only people in history to be able to use it since they mined it into extinction (can a mineral be extinct?) But all attempts to 're-carve' or canabalise the mineral from older roman carvings have failed, the marble is too brittle to carve.
