Tom. That's a bad Tom. I retract my nomination for you as Prime Minister (Isn't that how Hitler started?)
Also, we already know that Darwinism works. No testing!

Re: SA ban on Junk Food Ads
Hey, Senator - leave us discerning viewers of pornography alone
I may have misunderstood the article, but is he saying that some ISP will soon be filtering out porn? Get out of town.
Does that mean we only get a couple more sweet porny days? Then the government takes it away again?
That means, load up!
Article wrote:In case you hadn't heard, Senator Stephen Conroy, the Communications Minister, will soon serve Australians a smut-free internet. Or, at the very least, he'll soon supervise the audition for his sanitised feed. Late last year he announced it on his now-defunct blog. Any day now, some of Australia's internet service providers - the companies you pay for your web access - will join in a pilot of the minister's filter.

These are probably the same people who freak out when somebody swears or makes a sexual reference in a videogame that's full of severed limbs and exploding heads.

Yeah, and somehow they've gotten power??
But c'mon, Marc, that's severed limbs, exploding heads, and gratuitous excessive cruelty - those things are only minor violations when compared to things like swearing and consensual sex.

I don't like the idea of these filters, at all.

At least it says this:
But then it says this!
And here’s another related article

Luckily,
But...
Article wrote:The Australian communications regulator's top-secret blacklist of banned websites has been leaked on to the web and paints a harrowing picture of Australia's forthcoming internet censorship regime.
[...]
about half of the sites on the list are not related to child porn and include a slew of online poker sites, YouTube links, regular gay and straight porn sites, Wikipedia entries, euthanasia sites, websites of fringe religions such as satanic sites, fetish sites, Christian sites, the website of a tour operator and even a Queensland dentist.
"It seems to me as if just about anything can potentially get on the list," Landfelt said.
At least it says this:
Article wrote:The blacklist is maintained by ACMA and provided to makers of internet filtering software that parents can opt to install on their PCs.
But then it says this!
Article wrote:However, if the Government proceeds with its mandatory internet filtering scheme, sites on the blacklist will be blocked for all Australians. The Government has flagged plans to expand the blacklist to 10,000 sites or more.

Article wrote:The Australian communications regulator says it will fine people who hyperlink to sites on its blacklist, which has been further expanded to include several pages on the anonymous whistleblower site Wikileaks [the site that leaked the list].
Article wrote:ACMA's blacklist does not have a significant impact on web browsing by Australians today but sites contained on it will be blocked for everyone if the Federal Government implements its mandatory internet filtering censorship scheme.
But even without the mandatory censorship scheme, as is evident in the Whirlpool case, ACMA can force sites hosted in Australia to remove "prohibited" pages and even links to prohibited pages.
Luckily,
Article wrote:The Greens and Opposition also oppose the scheme, meaning any legislation to implement it will be blocked.
The Opposition has obtained legal advice that "legislation of some sort will almost certainly be required"
But...
Article wrote:,but others have said it may be possible to implement the scheme without legislation.

Nice work, iiNet.
Some of these government guys are just stupid. I'll be glad when this fails abysmally, which it hopefully will.
Article wrote:Australia's third largest internet provider, iiNet, has withdrawn from the Government's internet censorship trials, saying it could not "reconcile participation in the trial with our corporate social responsibility".
Nice work, iiNet.
Article wrote:Far from containing just "illegal material" such as child pornography, the [leaked] list of prohibited websites includes a wealth of legal material such as regular gay and straight porn sites, YouTube links, online poker sites, Wikipedia entries, euthanasia sites and even the sites of a Queensland dentist, a school canteen consultancy and an animal carer.

Re: SA ban on Junk Food Ads
As much as i don't like porn, this seems like a huge waste of Govt. time/money/effort- why not attack a feasible issue (like poverty)?
