Music you're digging on

Post by Marc on Wed Jul 16, 2008 5:06 pm

So lately I've been listening to M.Ward's Transfiguration of Vincent quite a lot. It's an incredibly pretentious title for a fairly straightforward bluesy pop album. Most of the songs have a really simple, sort of country beat and then a whole bunch of layered guitars and piano. He also uses a lot of echo on his voice, kind of reminds me of Bowie.

You can have a listen here: M. Ward - Vincent O'Brien

Of course, the quality is pretty crappy, because it's youtube. I don't know what kind of legalities we'd have to face for file-sharing though. Maybe a hidden forum?

All Hail West Texas - 14 songs about 7 people, 2 houses, a motorcycle and a locked treatment facility for adolescent boys.

And every knee will bow and every tongue proclaim: West Texas! West Texas! West Texas!

Pitchfork Media is a fairly pretentious website, but here is a pretty good review of The Mountain Goats' All Hail West Texas.

I love it. Maybe that's because I think you've played it at your place before (is that right?), and so maybe I've been conditioned to it. Though either way I still love it.

Okay, since this topic is here I'm gunna put this up. It may be crud but I heard it on RAGE one night and thought it was kinda funky, and the film clip is kinda funky. Anyways, I have not a huge attachment to it or anything, so give your opinion. Hot or Not? or in between. Also don't get distracted by the name of 'Wild Beasts', or the track title 'Devil's crayon'.

Yeah, I have.

I'll listen to that thing you just posted when I'm done Mountain Goating.

Yeah, I wasn't that into this. I really liked the intro, but after awhile that riff just eats your brain and it becomes grating. The film clips IS funky though.

Yeah. I guess it was pretty late - and by that I mean early - in the morning when I saw it. So maybe I was just in one of those moods.

EDIT:

Here's that Adele song I was talkin' aboot - the one where the review (sorry, wasn't a review. was just a comment thing) I read quickly degenerated into insulting her on her physical appearance. Sorry, you can just tell me to stop posting crud in here if want... but hey, this film clip is kinda cool as well.

Oh and Hey - there was a link to Duffy's Mercy on that vid that I just posted. Yeah I have heard of her, and yeah I do quite like that song actually. Nice pick.

Atmosphere - Guarantees

This is from their new album, When Life Gives You Lemons You Paint That Shit Gold. Probably my favourite off the album. It's just an electric guitar with the guy rapping over the top of it; it's almost like a folk song (and a mad working-class song) and adds further depth to the mystery of Why Doesn't Alex Like The Mountain Goats, because it he loves this.

I must have left my love for the goats in my other pants... that I burnt and put the remains in a locked metal box and threw into the ocean.

Yo Marc, your link goes to Puppets, not Guarantees.

EDIT: Puppets is cool and everything.

Also, checkit... (its a song from the show, so it probably should go in the video thing but whatever)

FOTC - If you're into it
