Double Gold!

Post by Andrew.C on Wed Aug 20, 2008 1:00 pm

They should have draws in the olympics. Sure, Michael Phelps is good and all and he did kick arse, but I don't think he should have got all the 8 golds, or, at least, someone else in one of those particular races should have got gold as well.

I think the race was the 100m butterfly, and Phelps won by 1/100th of a second!! That's total BS. That is not winning; that is fucking drawing, in my book. 1/100th of a second is, like, a statistical anomaly: it's, like, the difference in signal times from the touch sensitive pads of each competitor; it's, like, the difference in random fluctuations in eddies and currents in the individual lanes; it's the difference between the attractiveness of the competitor in the lane next to you. That is NOT a win!! They're just as good as each other, and I think they should both get gold.

Also, I swear, watching the video, that the other guy touched first! And indeed there was a complaint raised (but it got rejected) about that. With these ridiculously short time intervals, you would think that the sensitivities of the sensors may come into question?
