Legs of shame.

Post by Andrew.C on Sun Sep 07, 2008 11:08 pm

Okay, because this is in the section about general/Olympic bitching, I will say that this post is aimed at bitching about the regular Olympics. This is because I was just watching wheelchair basketball… and my god they ruled. That looks so freaking harder. It’s kinda changed my perspective on how I see the regular sport (I can’t help it), but I never realised how pathetically easy it is to walk/jump. Chumps! Now I can only see regular basketball as shit – I can’t watch it no more! Here we have a sport, basketball, designed for people with legs – with legs! – and it’s made to be difficult for them! And here we have people doing whilst controlling their zooming chairs and not being able to stop before you shoot. Regular basketballers are shit! Shit! “Oooo, I’m standing and shooting.” What suckers.

Oh my god. OMG! I just saw this woman swim the 50m medley... with no arms!! And she was kicking ass!!! She was coming first all the way up to the last 15m of the freestyle lap, then the American midget came through and took gold... unsurprisingly because she had arms. Lousy midget, show some respect.

I don't like the para-olympics. I wouldn't tune in to see a 5 year olds tee ball game because it is boring; they can't display the same sort of athletecism, they don't have the coordination and so they aren't as good and therefore aren't as entertaining. Not that i hold it against them they are pretty incredible at overcoming adversity, but I find it all a little perverse. I kinda feel like i am making fun of them because the only reason i can see to watch substandard sports is because you feel sorry for the people you are watching which defeats the purpose because all these people are doing these amazing things so that they aren't stopped by their disability.

Re: Tom

Yeah, but aren’t some of the sports, in some sense, almost more difficult? I don’t even know if you can say that all of them are "less athletic" (it gets a little grey when we start talking about the mentally handicapped, admitted). As mentioned above, wheelchair basketball is just as difficult as regular basketball, if not harder, in my opinion. And I don’t care where you’re from, but swimming 200m with no arms is way harder than doing it with them.
I agree that it may sorta make a spectacle(?) of the whole thing, or something, out of it, but that might be our problem and not theirs?

how is it not there problem. Its totally their problem.

Anywho it comes down to what you like watching and i don't like watching people without arms swimming.

I might add that sports are harder for physically challenged people i.e. people who simply can't throw or catch, but i wouldn't spend my time watching them either.

Wow Tom, just, wow- does this mean when you have kids you'll never watch them until they're at a professional level? or will you go along and heckle hem until they're better than you?

I'm sure he will watch his own kids but that is part of his point. The only people who watch kids play sport are their parents... and perverts.

Now that the paralympics are over, we can stop this crud. Unless there is some other offshoot of the brand... juniorolympic?!!?
