---Seven---
Topic on radio was about children's names, particularly being named after days of the week or months, because of the recent news that Nicole Kidman and whats-his-name apparently named their child "Sunday" (or Sundae).
My initial response was that it seemed kinda barmy, but then again I guess I have known (of) people with names of months/days but never really noticed. Also, apparently in other cultures (e.g. Ghana) all children are named after the day on which they're born. And in another culture they were named according to the order in which they were born in the family. Interesting. It all reminded me, at least the 'western' habit did, of George's suggestions for child names: 'Soda' and 'Seven'.

I hate to say this to you, seeing as you're Gentlemen's Club Guy, but get this out of the Gentlemen's Club.

Re: ---Seven---
Hey, c'mon. It's a topic that people could discuss. The question was: "what do people think of parents and the crazy names they give their kids." No good? I don't see any of your suggestions!

Re: ---Seven---
Yeah, the Gentlemen's club is getting rather overcrowded with some crud. It could do with a bit of culling. It's hard to know what will attract the attention of these finicky, transient members. Maybe we need another sub-forum where all the failed topics get shunted to? We could call it "The crud bucket."?

Re: ---Seven---
it's Malaysian- the habit of naming your children in the order they're born in. Timmeh has two uncles who live in Australia and their Cantonese names translate as seven and number eight (i thought he was kidding until his mum did a literal translation for me).
i guess parents can name their kids whatever they like- though it's probably cruel to give them a really weird sounding one (weird in the culture they live in) as it sets the kid up for a life of ridicule.

"Moon unit", he’s totally gotta pay for that. Especially for that “/thread” remark...Simmo! wrote:Frank Zappa named his daughter 'Moon Unit'

I’m not a doctor, but it probably occurs in more than one culture...Glenjamin wrote: it's Malaysian-
Yeah, I feel that’s the main reason for placing restrictions on parents' naming powers. There was this article recently that reported on a couple in Sweden (?) who wanted to name their child ‘Lego’. I think the judge’s response was something like: “Denied!”Glenjamin wrote:it's probably cruel

Re: ---Seven---
I just heard on the radio that they were 're-opening' the discussion on the rights of parents' in naming their child because someone, somewhere, has, apparently, named their child something like "Tahula does the hula from Hawaii". I don't think there needs to that much of a trial thing for these people; they should just be shot, in the courtroom, by the judge.
Law room guy: "We're here today to try these two people on gross negligent parenting on the account of them naming their child 'Tahula does the hula from Hawaii'."
Judge, in thoughtful gaze. "Hmmm."
He pulls out his hand cannon.
Bang! Bang!
Everyone in courtroom parties down.
