Seriously where will it end. They have been discussing recently whether or not to ban the buying of multiple drinks in bars which will make the lines at bars exponentionally longer!

When I was overseas it was great. You did what you wanted and you stopped when you wanted. There were far far less violent altercations (at least that I saw) compared to the 3 or so I see in NSW every night i go out from people being kicked out of pubs.

I can understand legislation that curbs the selling of drugs. I can. I may not agree with it on a personal level regardless of the 'good' it does for society but I definitely understand it. But at some point you have to sit back and realise that people have to have the right to be stupid. Yes stop people speeding. Yes stop people taking heroin. Yes stop people shooting themselves. But stopping people buying rounds at bars..?

I know that alchohol causes more social problems than every other drug. But it is also an incredibly good blow off valve for many many people from all walks of life. Like anything good it can be abused, but getting help for alchoholics is different to veritably branding everyone as 'possible' alchoholics and taking away their right to be stupid.

Well, they're several steps ahead of you. They don't allow jugs at the same time.

Yeah, we're not big on people taking responsibility for their own actions in this state. One of the problems is when they introduced the legislation, they put into in that the licensee is not to allow anyone on the premises if they are (exact word) 'intoxicated' which could be pretty much anything after your first sip.

But the 'Duty of Care' crap doesn't just stop with the selling of drinks. If, as a licensee, you serve someone alcohol, then YOU are responsible for all the stupid shit that they do while drunk. If someone has 12 beers, then jumps in his car and crashes on the way home because he's pissed, then he can sue YOU because you're the one who got him drunk. He could also sue the security for not arranging a taxi for him.
